Re: “Biometric devices to be used to detect foreign criminals”, Thai PBS, October 22.

Why are the Thai authorities surprised foreign people go home and change their names? Thais do it at the drop of a hat, for good luck.

“Pol Lt Gen Suthipong said immigration police currently scan foreign criminals on the black list entering Thailand by checking their fingerprints. … The current system to detect criminals is not effective.  Some criminals went back to their home countries and returned under new names, he said.”

“That’ll do, nab ’im.”

Biometrics shouldn’t be hard to implement for the hub of innovation, technology and 4.0 etc, etc.

This sounds odd. I’ve never once had my fingerprints scanned when entering Thailand. I wonder how Immigration pick which arriving passengers might be criminals, and therefore need to be scanned?
It’s a bit of a chicken-and-egg question.

I wonder if the radar detectors and biometric devices will be purchased from the fake bomb-detector company?

They should be more worried about domestic criminals. Surely this will mean that the queues at the airport are going to be even worse then they already are.

Just fingerprint every tourist who arrives, give them the “Little p” book on what you can do, say and see and of course tell them about no smoking on the beach and no sunbathing there either three days a week. Then everything will be hunky-dory.
Except tourists will drop off and the TAT will have to start counting every passenger jet that takes off anywhere in the world to get their magic tourist figures.

Retina scans would solve the problem very quickly.
