Thailand also have candidates to compete for the women’s doubles title as Chayanit Chaladchalam and Phataimas Muenwong beat Indonesian Anggia Shitta Awanda and Yulfira Barkah 21-17 17-21 21-8 in the Saturday’s semi-finals.
Khosit shook off a shaky start to beat Kodai Naraoka of Japan 12-21 21-19 21-10 to reach his first World Grand Prix final while Suppanyu beat Goh Giap Chin of Malaysia 21-15 21-15.
“I didn’t feel good in the first game as I had gas in my stomach. I just tried to hang in there and then after he was leading 19-17 in the second set, he started making errors and I took my chance from then on,” said Khosit who is in need for ranking points after reaching the last year’s Japan Open quarter-finals. The Japan tournament starts next week.
“The last time I played Suppanyu was a few years back so it didn’t guarantee who would have the edge in the final. I think I have come quite far to reach this stage as I have been playing a lot since the SEA Games,” Khosit said.
Chayanit Chaladchalam and Phataimas Muenwong are in their third finals this year since the Thailand Open and World University Games in Taiwan. They will play Della Destiara Haris and Rizki Amelia Pradaipta of Indonesia in the final.
