One noticeable aspect of this strange saga is the absence so far of any unveiling ceremony, official or otherwise, for the differently-worded replacement plaque.
Meanwhile, from London comes news that the Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Elizabeth’s husband and self-styled “world’s most experienced plaque unveiler”, has decided to stand down from public duties because, as he joked in characteristically forthright style, he couldn’t stand up much longer.
What ever would he make of the goings-on here?
