Extremist views welcome here, but they will be challenged

Re: “Bashed for revealing inconvenient truths about Islamic countries”, Have Your Say, April 6.

Alf Haupt uses exactly the same language as his bipolar alter-ego JC Wilcox. Witness his sweeping generalisation about Mr Wilcox’s many detractors; he calls these people “liberals”, using the language of despotism to describe his right-minded opponents. I am presuming here that this includes me and certain other supporters of democracy, which is fine. The inference is that Wilcox-Haupt is not “liberal”, but the diametric opposite. That, too, is fine by me.
He states, in his paper-thin defence of the indefensible, that “[a]nd yet when some of these issues are exposed by Mr Wilcox, the liberals descend on him like a pack of wolves”. What this person needs to understand is that, when confronted with blatantly extremist views, civilised readers reserve the right not to let this dangerous bile go unchallenged. As Edmund Burke said 250 years ago: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
Turning to his biased and selective demographics, it is a fact that populations are expanding in several different regions, but, true to form, Wilcox-Haupt picks on Muslims again to express negative views about fellow human beings whose beliefs differ from his own. In terms of education and gender in particular, it is also a fact that non-Muslim “hardliners” express these repugnant practices across sub-Saharan Africa, North Korea, and so on.
I do, however, agree that Wilcox-Haupt has the absolute right to air his views here, obdurate as they are.
