The chairman of Bangkok’s Thai Sikh International School (TSIS) is a noble man with noble values, but the tragedy is he has been guided badly astray by his adviser from Singapore, whose outdated experience has brought negative results in the operation of both branches of the school.
The academic strength of the non-profit schools has rapidly declined. Despite this, the adviser from Singapore continues to insist that TSIS is among the top 300 schools in the world – which was absolutely false.
On the contrary, TSIS has become a negative proposition. It was originally founded to uphold Sikh values, yet drew many children from other religions and grew in size to more than 500 students. It became one of the country’s top schools for academic performance, sports and other extracurricular activities.
The TSIS chairman is now reportedly handing over responsibility to operate the school to a missionary school in Bangkok because he feels he is unable to run the institution. The man in question is also the chairman of the biggest Sikh temple (Gurdwara) in Thailand. If he can relinquish operation of the school to Christian missionaries, it begs the question of whether he might one day hand over the Gurdwara’s operations to another religious missionary institution, something that would cause disgrace for the entire Sikh community. If reports of the hand-over are accurate, the chairman is no longer an asset but instead a liability for the Sikh community as well as for education in Thailand.
