Elephant abuse at Surin?

SUNDAY, JANUARY 29, 2017

If readers Google “petition Stop abusing elephants at Surin elephant round-up” they will read about all atrocities allegedly still being committed against elephants.

The petition claims that elephants at the Surin festival have all undergone a process known as “crushing” – in which baby elephants are tortured for days to break their spirit. According to the petition, during the festival they are stabbed with sharp hooks, have their ears pulled and can be seen with blood all over their heads when they give tourists rides.
While the Animal Welfare Bill has been used to fight cruelty against dog and cats, what is being done to protect elephants and other species? We, the public, deserve an answer.
