A foreigner needled by dual pricing for tattoos

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2016

Could someone please explain to me why my Thai wife paid Bt7,000 for a sak yant tattoo from the son of renowned master Ajarn Noo, whereas I, a foreigner, am being asked to pay Bt38,000 for the exact same service? And this was within a matter of weeks.

For a tattoo by Ajarn Noo, the fee starts at Bt70,000. A conservative calculation of the number of tattoos that father and son can do in one week reveals that this business must be making millions. That’s much, much more than I make as a very hard-working corporate chef in Sydney.
