Flimsy evidence from media site attacking Prachatai
Re: “Prachatai denies funding by Soros foundation influences its news coverage”, Politics, August 21.
The New Atlas media outlet has claimed that local news agency Prachatai, the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand (FCCT) and various NGOs are in receipt of funding from, or have a direct association with, financier George Soros’ Open Society foundation.
The New Atlas has only backed up its accusation against the FCCT by providing evidence of one media seminar held in Myanmar that was linked to Open Society. This is surely very flimsy evidence on which to base the accusation that the FCCT is under the influence and direction of, and has a direct association with, Soros and his foundation. To me it sounds very much like a conspiracy theory hatched by someone with a fertile imagination and a not-so-hidden agenda.
In the interests of transparency, perhaps New Atlas could provide details of it own backers and sources of funding.
