Yesterday I was annoyed by the following attempts to defraud customers:
Tomatoes: 500-gram pack for Bt49 (Bt100 per kilo).
Peppers: 2 pieces for Bt139 (about Bt400 per kilo).
Potatoes: pre-packed for Bt100/kg.
Broccoli: Bt69 per piece (about Bt350 per kilo).
In how many other countries would people pay a day’s wages for one kilo of broccoli?
Thailand’s must be the world’s most expensive vegetables right now – even pricier perhaps than those sold in the Arctic Circle.
Is there any Thai authority to protect consumers from overcharging?
