Greyhound Cafe brings the Italian flag to the table with nine delicious treats

POPULAR FUSION restaurant Greyhound is celebrating the 19th anniversary of its collaboration with credit card giant Citibank with a feast of gourmet dishes dressed in the colours of the Italian flag.
“Citibank offers a wide range of credit cards here in Thailand and our aim is to offer the maximum benefits to our customers. We have worked with Greyhound Cafe for a long time as it is the perfect partner in terms of food, products and service. We’re always happy to bring new experiences to our customers,” says Sandeep Batra, director of credit and loans at Citibank Thailand.
The “Celebrate Italian Art Eat Your Art Out” campaign, introduces nine special dishes, all of them dreamt up by executive chef Harit Uejakul.
“It’s a challenge to create dishes that stand out from an original Italian menu. I play with Italy’s national colours or red, green and white and try to combine Italian icons in the details of each dish,” Harit says.
His Red, White, Green Bruchetta (Bt160) is topped with Italian basil olive oil, boasts spicy sundried tomato (red), covered with crabmeat (white) and a sour Italian dressing and greens mixed with herbs and avocado.
The High Heel Pizza (Bt180) features shoe-shaped baguettes filled with baked salami, black olives and mozzarella cheese, with heels made of pickled carrot balls.
“We have stuck to favourite Italian dishes but adapted some ingredients to add the three colours and give the food a Thai-Italian twist. We’ve also incorporated an attractive modern decoration to represent Italy’s reputation as a capital of fashion,” Harit says.
For main dishes, Harit proudly presents Tre Colori Fettuccini (Bt270), spicy fettuccini made of beetroot, spinach and egg, cooked with Italian sausage, sun-dried tomato, shitake mushroom, olive gherkins, fried bacon and dried chilli in olive oil.
Another highlight is the full-flavoured Black Truffle Linguini (Bt290), which boasts a sauce of Portobello mushrooms and black truffle and is topped with parmesan cheese and truffle oil and tossed in an Alfredo cream sauce.
“Italian chefs traditionally use basil, olive oil, cheese and salami to give flavour and we haven’t departed from that,” he explains.
Those with a sweet tooth will love the Leaning Tower (Bt200), a layered almond meringue baked for four hours and designed to look like the Tower of Pisa. It’s stuffed with mascarpone cream, lemon curd and raspberry sauce and adorned with fresh blueberries and strawberries.
Also perfect to enjoy with coffee is the Handbag Tiramisu (Bt200), a coffee chiffon cake, coated with coffee mirror sauce and layered with mascarpone cream.
Drinks too have an Italian slant and include Red Herb, an interesting blend of pomegranate juice, pineapple juice, Italian basil, rosemary, Japanese cucumber and sliced radish and the Fresh Up, which mixes grapefruit juice, lime juice and raspberry syrup with lemon & lime slices and is topped up with Perrier.
The Italian Triplet set comes in three colours – the green one is blended with green apple, blue Curacao and pineapple syrup, the white one has elderflower cordial and pineapple syrup and the red one raspberry syrup. All are priced at Bt180 a glass.
The campaign runs through June 30. Diners spending Bt1,000 on a Citibank credit card have the chance to win a luxury four-day trip to the ski resort Club Med Pragelato Vialattea in Italy, inclusive of return tickets by Turkish Airlines for two, worth Bt265,800.
