Immunity for rice-scheme investigators a big own goal

The junta's decision to give officials investigating Yingluck's rice price-pledging plan immunity from future lawsuits is a massive own goal. The military is putting Yingluck on trial to hold her accountable for her acts, so for the junta to then excuse i

Knowing that they cannot be held accountable will encourage officials to throw justice and the rule of law to the wind. For instance, to obtain confessions, they will be free to use torture or false promises, in gross violation of Criminal Code S135.
We are a house divided and were at the brink of civil war. Encouraging the authorities to ignore justice and rule of law in investigating the case will show the verdict of Yingluck’s trial to be pre-ordained, make her a martyr, and drive us further apart.
To promote healing, the junta should bend over backwards to show that rule of law is being rigorously applied in her case. The government has made strident claims that there is more than enough guilt to convict the lady. Let that guilt be clearly and transparently proven beyond reasonable doubt, such that even her brother will accept her fate as a just one.
