Empowering women is good for society's wealth

I agree with the points made in the Achara Deboonme’s column. But, unfortunately, society still believes that women are weaker and less capable than men. Wider social acceptance of women will only occur when attitudes are changed and mechanisms modified so that women have equal access to jobs and careers, as well as pay on par with men.
Women can play an important role as mothers – raising children to become the “quality human resources” that are an essential foundation for generating economic growth for society. However, they do not get the same opportunity as men to engage directly in creating society’s wealth. The time has come to end this “secondary” status so that women are no longer left needlessly unemployed, underpaid and confined largely to low-status occupations.
