Paul Oakenfold stars at a two-day Bangkok bash unveiling the fresh talent

The W Bangkok hotel is treating fans of electronic music to a two-day party capping off its parent company’s third annual Burn DJ Lab search for fresh talent on September 28 and 29.
The event culminates with a performance by famed British spinner Paul Oakenfold, who’s twice been nominated for Grammy awards. Also appearing are producer, composer and instrumentalist DJ White Shadow, another Grammy nominee for his work with Lady Gaga, and the winners of Burn DJ Lab 2013.
The contestants uploaded original tracks and mixes for a chance to attend the lab in Thailand. An expert panel of DJ Lab Mentors made the selection.
“We’re thrilled to once again partner with Burn to further develop dynamic music programming that showcases emerging talent around the world,” says Paul James of W Hotels, the St Regis and the Luxury Collection. “Evolving the DJ Lab to use digital technology to seek out artists from across cultures and musical genres allows us to continue to bring what’s new and next to both our guests and locals on a truly global scale.”
The dual parties on September 28 and 29 sprawl across three stages at the W Bangkok – the Great Room Stage, Woo Bar Stage and Wet Deck Stage.
Oakenfold was a pioneer of the genre in Ibiza in 1987. Now 50, he’s collaborated with Madonna, U2, Grandmaster Flash, the Happy Mondays and many others. Millions of people around the world have grooved to his sets, making him one of the most respected names on the scene.
Also joining the party is Andy Caldwell, one of the greats of the San Francisco House scene in the early 2000s, first as a member of the house act Soulstice and later as a solo artist. Wolfgang Gartner’s remix of his track “Funk Nasty” featuring Gramma Funk was nominated for a Grammy in 2011 for Best Remix.
Also sharing the limelight are DJ White Shadow, the Chicago-based DJ who produced Lady Gaga’s sophomore album “Born This Way” and her upcoming “Artpop”.
