Just when urban film fans thought it was safe to go back upcountry, Phettai "Mum Jokmok" Wongkumlao has contrived another episode for his hit Isaan comedy franchise "Yam Yasothon".

He had the brainstorm right after finishing the second movie three years ago, but held fire until now. “YY3” will be more of a family affair than ever, with Mum’s daughter Busarakam (“Em”) and son Phethay (“Mick”) reprising their roles and joined for the first time by their mother, Endu (“Mod”), making her acting debut as an ex-girlfriend of Yam, Mum’s character.
He said he’d looked high and low for an actress who fit the role, only to realise he was living with her. “It cost me a lot,” he jokes, having talked her into it by getting her high on lowly booze. “I said yes and then the next day I couldn’t refuse!” says Mod.
Her acting fee turned out to be Bt400,000 worth of brand-name handbags. “We went to Macau and I had to buy her Louis Vuitton and Chanel bags,” Pattai says. “I gave the sales clerk my credit card and she said, ‘Are you okay?’ I told her loudly, ‘I’m okay!’” Actually he doesn’t mind buying her stuff – last time it was a Mercedes Benz – but he does point out that her acting fee is close to Bt1 million when everything is tallied. “She doesn’t like the heat, so I had to hire an air-conditioned van for her to sleep in on the set. When I added up all the costs, I thought I had ‘Aum’ Patchrapa in my movie!” he roars, referring to top-earning actress Patchrapa Chaichue.
Acting-wise, he says, Mod is doing “okay”. “The only drawback is that I dare not give her any directions!”

Benz’s mum says ‘I do’
Eight years into their relationship, Boromwut “Mic” Hiranyatsathiti finally has the green light to marry actress Pornchita “Benz” Na Songkhla. Evidently it took him that long to talk Benz’s mother into it.
“He had to bring his grandpa over for dinner to persuade my mum,” Benz told the press. “She’s very possessive, but finally she agreed.”
It will be a low-key wedding in Hua Hin on November 8, followed by a family feast. “The next auspicious day is next year, but that’s too far away,” Mic said. “This was the only auspicious day this year, but it’s still too soon to let us plan a big party.” Instead there’ll be a grand reception next year, preferably on April 26, their ninth anniversary as a couple.
It had better be grand, because Benz’s mum has a reputation for being “difficult”. She agreed to the marriage on one condition – and it wasn’t Bt400,000 worth of brand-name handbags. She agreed to give up Benz on the condition that she doesn’t have to give up Benz. Benz stays home with her, and Mic can move in with them. Okay, he said, but he’s keeping his own place too, and Benz can spend some time there as well.
