Cancer claims badminton great Pramote

Thai sports has lost an eminent personality in former badminton doubles specialist Pramote Teerawiwatana, who has died after a year-long struggle with lung cancer.

The former world No 2 died peacefully at Ramathibodi Hospital yesterday at dawn, aged 45. 

In his prime, Pramote, together with longtime partner Tesana Panvisvas, won the SEA Games gold medal in Brunei 2000, and two Asian Games silver medals, in Bangkok (1998) and Busan (2002). 
He also won the national title 11 times and represented Thailand in two Olympics, Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004, reaching the second round on both occasions.
