Had a little K-pop blowback this week when DJ Kachapa “Moddum” Tancharoen called fans of South Korean music kwai, by which he didn’t mean useful and hard-working.
Moddum said on his gossipy radio show-webcast “Chae Tae Chow” early Tuesday that K-pop fans should spend more time taking care of their parents and buy nice gifts for them instead of their idols. “Stop running after those stars!” he said. “Don’t be a fool or kwai!”
Naturally, the blowback blew back, especially when a video of Moddum’s webcast turned up on YouTube. The K-fans hit the social media. Who’s he calling dumb buffalo? People like him can thank “fools” like them for having their jobs in the first place.
“Even the PM is a K-pop fan,” someone posted at Siamzone.com. “Why you blame us?”
Yingluck kept out of sight but Saithip “DJ P Chod” Montrikul Na Ayutthaya got dragged into the fight. She heads A-time Media, which produces “Chae Tae Chow”. Tweeting that she hadn’t yet heard what Moddum said, she cooled tempers by promising they’d look into the matter. “If there’s anything wrong, I apologise.”

Cheesy pickings
Premier Yingluck already has her hands full on the social networks, thanks anyway. She visited Hat Yai to inspect the bomb damage and ended up being criticised online for referring to Hat Yai as a province. Then she referred to Malaysia’s prime minister as a president.
The “gaffe watch” hit the jackpot on Monday when Yingluck was videotaped dozing off in mid-wai during the royal cremation. Just as expressions of sympathy for the exhausted leader appeared, so did photographs of her using her smart phone at the ceremony.
Cue Panthongtae “Oak” Shinawatra. Her nephew explained the last episode on Facebook. “I saw the photo and was curious so I called her. The Prime Minister was just switching her phone off!”
This is all nonsense, her personal spokesman Suranand Vejjajiva complained. Yingluck should be criticised about her work alone. Well, seeing as he brought that up …
