“The findings of the ‘Industrial Development Report 2016’ are very relevant for Indonesia as it looks for ways to avoid the middle-income trap while accelerating poverty reduction and preserving the environment,” said Nicola Cantore, industrial development officer, in a release on Friday.
The report explores the relationships between inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and technology and innovation.
Among the three dimensions of sustainability is the ability of a country’s structural transformation to sustain growth over longer periods of time, enabling it to catch up with more advanced economies.
The second dimension is the inclusiveness of structural transformation in poverty reduction, increased quality of life and increased participation in gainful employment, and a more equitable distribution of incomes, assets and social welfare.
The third is the environmental sustainability of structural transformation in resource use and environmental impacts that are compatible with the welfare of future generations
