The seven exhibition halls of the Myanmar Motion Picture Museum will be closed for refurbishment and reopen as modern galleries. The museum building will also undergo a major renovation to restore it to its original glory.

“There have been plans to renovate the Motion Picture Museum. But we have finally decided that there will be extensive renovations to the museum. This building is old and crumbing, so we will keep it in its original form and renovate the exhibit galleries.  We are still working out the details as to how best to go about this. We will upgrade them along the lines of art galleries abroad,” said Aye Kyu Lya, vice-chairperson of the Myanmar Motion Picture Organisation.
The Myanmar Motion Picture Museum has not undergone any major renovations since opening in 1988. The museum boasts seven galleries that display pictures of Academy Award winners, models of the Academy Awards, filmmaking equipment, and historical records.
