Chiang Mai province will launch its mass vaccination programme against Covid-19 on June 7, with priority given to elders and people with underlying health problems.

All district hospitals, selected private hospitals and public venues will take part in the inoculation drive, a news source revealed on Saturday.

In Muang district, the main vaccination units are at Nakornping Hospital, Royal Park Rajapruek and Promenada Shopping Mall.

So far more than 100,000 people in Muang district have registered to receive the vaccine, according to the source.

Dr Worchet Techarak, director of Nakornping Hospital, said that the hospital’s vaccination unit could accommodate 500 people per day, while the unit at Royal Park Rajapruek, which is also managed by the hospital, can vaccinate up to 2,500 per day.

“We chose to expand our vaccination unit to a second location at Royal Park Rajapruek to avoid crowding at the hospital,” he said.

“The park has ample areas for parking and for vaccine recipients to register, get tested, get vaccinated and remain in the rest area to monitor for side-effects.”

Meanwhile, Yod Khunyosying, the chief of Doi Saket public health office, said that about 60,000 people in Doi Saket district have registered to get Covid-19 vaccine from June 7. The district’s main vaccination unit is located at Phra That Doi Saket Temple in Choeng Doi subdistrict.

“Public health officials have gone door-to-door to about 80 per cent of residents of Doi Saket to invite them to get the vaccine. Of these, 40 per cent said they would register for vaccination, 45 per cent said they were not sure due to concerns about safety, and the rest said they would not get vaccinated,” he said.
