The authorities of 76 provinces, with the exception of Bangkok, completed a questionnaire from the Interior Ministry about whether they will go for the Sinopharm jab.

According to the survey, 62 provinces are interested in acquiring the vaccine, nine are not, four are undecided and one has not responded.

On Friday, the Chulabhorn Royal Academy (CRA) announced that it plans to import a million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China in June. The move came after the Food and Drug Administration approved the jab for emergency use in Thailand, with Bio Genetech registered as its importer.

The academy’s decision to procure the vaccines was announced in the Royal Gazette earlier this week.

CRA secretary-general Dr Nithi Mahanonda said the government and private agencies had expressed interest in purchasing the vaccine from the academy.
