The typhoon has moved from the Philippines to the South China Sea, with its highest wind speed at around 65 kilometres an hour.
“It is expected to weaken before landing in central Vietnam on Wednesday and Thursday, which will bring more rain and strong winds in the North,” the department said.
People have been warned to be ready for flash floods and monitor the department’s announcements.
