After being tested twice for Covid-19, 51 footballers and staff of Khon Kaen United team have tested negative, Khon Kaen Governor Somsak Jangtrakul said on Sunday (September 13).

The team was under scrutiny after an Uzbekistan national, who plays for Buriram United, tested positive for Covid-19 last week upon completing his mandatory 14 days quarantine.

Fifteen Khon Kaen United footballers were considered at high risk due to their contact with the infected person, while 36 staff were considered at low risk. They had been ordered to remain in quarantine from September 5 until 19.
“Staff from the Ministry of Public Health would visit them in quarantine to perform a third test on Friday [September 18], to confirm that they are free from Covid-19,” said the governor.
“I want Khon Kaen locals and Thai people to rest assured that we have strictly followed the regulations of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration in handling the situation to ensure everyone’s safety. Still, people must not lower their guard and keep wearing face mask in public, wash their hands regularly and maintain social distancing practice.
“There is still no report on when the team can start playing, as it would depend on the decision of the Football Association of Thailand,” added Somsak.
