A Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) board meeting yesterday (July 29) gave its approval for CNNC Joint Venture to carry out a land reclamation project, which is part of the third phase of the Laem Chabang Port development project, after CNNC won the e-bidding.

CNNC – which comprises NTL Marine, a subsidiary of Prima Marine, Nathalin and Zhonggang Construction Group (China) – proposed a bid price of Bt21.32 billion, lower than PAT’s proposed budget of Bt21.95 billion.
A contract is expected to be signed in a month and construction should begin by the end of the third quarter this year. The construction is scheduled for completion in four years from the date the contract is signed.
Other bidders for the project included Italian Thai Development, China Harbour, Si Saeng Engineering and Deme Group.
Opened in 1991, Laem Chabang Port in Chon Buri has seen increasing use and requires immediate expansion to boost its capacity of 11 million TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) per year to 18 million TEU.
The third phase includes the construction of a Single Rail Transfer Operator that will connect the port with logistical routes in the Eastern Economic Corridor as well as neighbouring countries.
