Thailand’s exports in May amounted to $16.278 billion, the lowest in the past four years, the Trade Policy and Strategy Office said on Wednesday (June 24).

Exports were hit due to the ongoing global Covid-19 crisis, its impact on consumers’ purchasing power, as well as the slump in oil price, the Office director-general Pimchanok Vonkorpon said.
Thailand’s exports in May were down 22.50 per cent, compared to May 2019, she said, adding that total imports in May amounted to $13.584 billion, decreasing by 34.41 per cent. Trade surplus last month was $2.694 billion.
Overall Thai exports during January to May 2020 totalled $97.899 billion, down 3.71 per cent year on year, while import was $88.808 billion, falling 11.64 per cent year on year, leaving a trade surplus of $9.0906 billion for the first five months, she added.
