The sister of a 33-year-old pregnant woman who was hacked to death by the abbot of a Buri Ram temple has demanded an apology from the murderer.

Police said that Phra Um Deeruenrom, 57, the abbot of Wat Ban Nong Bua in tambon Tum Yai, had confessed to killing the woman, named Lamyai, on Monday (June 15).

He deliberately crashed his van into the pickup truck being driven by her husband in Kumeuang district, before chasing down Lamyai, who was eight months pregnant and killing her with a machete.
Villagers told police that the monk had an affair with the victim, who tried to extort money from him by threatening to tell others that the unborn baby was his.
Reporters who visited the victim’s family home on Tuesday found her family bitter and grieving.
Mai, the victim’s sister, said she could not accept the fact that the murderer was an abbot who people in the community respected, and she wanted him to apologise to her family or else they would not organise a funeral.
