Paraquat, chlorpyrifos classified as ‘most’ hazardous
The Industry Ministry has classified agri-chemicals paraquat and chlorpyrifos as Type 4 hazardous substances. This classification will go into effect from June 1.
The classification, signed by Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, was published in the Royal Gazette on Wednesday (May 20). So far, chlorpyrifos, chlorpyrifos-methyl, paraquat and paraquat dichloride have been listed as Type 4 hazardous substances.
Thailand categorises hazardous substances into four types based on their control requirements. Type 1 are subjected to the least stringent regulations, while all activities related to Type 4 substances are prohibited.
Hence, all manufacturers, importers, exporters or possessors of these Type 4 substances have to comply with the order within the time specified by the authorities.
