More than 100,000 people have taken online vocational training courses during the lockdown to improve their skills and present them with much-needed job opportunities.

Department of Skill Development director-general Thawat Benjathikul said the online training available during the lockdown received a hearty response, with more than 100,000 taking the various courses.
The most attractive was English, with 27,188 opting for it, followed by the air-conditioner mechanics course (13,062), the Korean course (10,378), Japanese course (10,222) and Thai food course (8,828).
Thawat said the number showed that Thais are interested in improving their skills during their free time, and online training was very beneficial for unemployed workers.
The Covid-19 crisis is easing and several businesses are now reopening, so gaining specific knowledge will help them find jobs, Thawat said.
“The labour minister has asked officials to facilitate people so more of them can access the online training via the www.dsd.go.th website. In the future more fields of study will be added,” he said
