The ceremony began at 7pm with monks circling the temple with lighted candles, followed by a sermon from the abbot and prayers until the morning of the following day. A few people joined in at the temple where social distancing practices were maintained.
The Sangha Supreme Council on May 5 ordered all temples under its jurisdiction, both in Thailand and overseas, to suspend all religious rituals for Visakha Bucha Day to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
