Songkhla Governor Jaruwat Kliangklao issued the closure order on Wednesday (April 22).
The two reportedly became infected after a row with a truck driver from Malaysia on April 9.
According to Immigration Division 6 supervisor, Pol Maj-General Peerawat Boonloy, the staff were checking cargo trucks entering the border checkpoint. "The driver of a truck from Malaysia refused to have his temperature taken and started shouting at him,” he said. “The Immigration officer went to see a doctor on April 19 because he felt feverish, only to learn later in the day that he had been infected.”
The governor said that the checkpoint would be thoroughly disinfected during the period of closure. “Thais in Malaysia who wish to enter the country during the next week should use the Padang Besar checkpoint instead, which is also located in Sadao district,” he said.
