A Myanmar worker returning from a wedding party swam in a pond near a factory’s compound in Tak’s Mae Sot district and drowned on Sunday night, police said.

Police and scuba divers from a local emergency centre rushed to the scene after the Mae Sot police station was alerted at 12.30am on Monday that a Myanmar worker had drowned in a pond behind a factory in Moo 2 village in Tambon Mae Pa.
The scuba divers took about half an hour to comb the bed of the pond and retrieve the body of Chawchaw, 30.
His friends told police that Chawchaw had gone to a wedding party on Sunday night and returned to the factory drunk. He complained about hot weather, left to swim in the pond and was not seen for several hours.
His friends went to look for Chawchaw and found his clothes on the edge of the pond and so called police for help.
