Earlier this week the fish was approved by the Cabinet to become Thailand’s national aquatic animal.
The Thai ice sculptors, Kusol Bunkobsongserm, Amnauysak Srisuk and Kritsana Wongtes, competed with teams from China, Macau, South Korea, Hawaii, Indonesia, Poland, Singapore and Finland in the annual four-day contest.
It was the eighth top award for Thailand since the first victory in 2000. It is the 22nd year of Thai participation since 1991 in one of Japan’s most popular winter events, visited by over 2 million tourists.
