Two motorways, elevated expressway to be toll-free during New Year holidays
The Highways Department and the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) plan to allow motorists to use two motorways and the Chon Buri-bound elevated expressway free of charge for eight days during the New Year holidays.
A source from the Highways Department on Monday said the agency would exempt motorists from paying tolls for the Bangkok-Chon Buri motorway and the Bang Na-Bang Pa-in motorway from 12am on December 27 to 12pm on January 3.
The source said EXAT had also agreed in a meeting with the department to exempt the tolls for the Buraphawithi (Bang Na-Chon Buri) elevated expressway during the same period.
The measure is aimed at facilitating motorists who leave Bangkok during the long New Year break and return later.
The proposal to exempt motorists from the motorway tolls will have to be approved by the Cabinet, while the exemption for the expressway can be approved by the EXAT board right away, the source added.
