A three-year-old boy was killed, and his mother severely injured, in a fire that burned down their house in Chaiyaphum’s Kaset Somboon district late Thursday night, police said.

The fire station was alerted to the fire at a community in Tambon Ban Dua in Kaset Somboon at midnight.
Five fire engines rushed to the scene and firefighters found the mother, Sukanya Thaphakdee, had suffered severe burns to her face and body when she tried to go into the burning house to save her son, Jessda.
The firefighters took about an hour to put out the blaze and discovered the charred body of the boy.
Police said the fire started on the second floor and quickly spread through the house. The cause of the fire has yet to be investigated.
