1,000kg of marijuana found in pickup

A pickup truck containing 1,000 kilograms of marijuana has been found abandoned in a village in Nakhon Phanom, officials said on Tuesday.

Tha Uthane district chief Phumsak Khampu said the pickup was parked and left unattended in front of a house in Ban Na Nua village in Tambon Tha Uthane of Tha Uthane district on Monday evening.

Villagers became suspicious, so they alerted the district office. Assistant district chief Wissanu Lertsongkram and defence volunteers found the drugs in 24 bags covered by a canvas on the pickup's bed.
Villagers said the saw the pickup driver leave in another vehicle after he parked it there. The pickup was registered in Bangkok.
