Public urged to do good deeds for King Rama IX’s birthday as samaritans turn out to donate blood
Today marks the birthday of HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX), the much-beloved paternal figure of the nation.
Alms-giving ceremonies will take place across the country, as will various other activities for good causes as people follow in the footsteps of the late monarch who helped others throughout his life.
Many do-gooders have already made merit in dedication to the late monarch before his birthday anniversary.
More than 300 policemen donated their blood yesterday morning.
“Donating blood is a selfless act. It’s giving without expecting anything in return,” the National Blood Centre director Dr Ubonwan Jaroonrengrit said yesterday as her centre launched a campaign encouraging people to donate blood in remembrance of King Rama IX.
Special activities will be held at her centre from 8am to 4pm today as part of the campaign, including offering gifts of seedlings and free food for donors.
“You can donate blood at the centre or any of our regional branches,” Ubonwan said.
In Chon Buri province, Sattahip Naval Base chief Rear Admiral Wuttipas Phumsawas yesterday presided over activities that were held to mark the late King’s birthday.
More than 200 sailors, local officials and volunteers joined the activities, including collecting garbage and cleaning up a public park. “We do good deeds to show loyalty to King Rama IX,” Wuttipas said.
