Despite facing the charge of perjury for her role in former teacher Jomsap Saenmuangkhot’s failed attempt to petition for a retrial over her hit-and-run conviction, alleged eyewitness Thongres Wongsricha on Friday maintained throughout the four-hour interrogation that the person behind the wheel in the 2005 crash was a man.

The 52-year-old Thongres went to see Nakhon Phanom police at 10.30am to hear the charge of perjury and told reporters there that the March 11, 2005 crash culprit that caused elderly cyclist Lua Phorbumrung’s death was a man.
Police would bring her later in the afternoon to court to seek a detention order.
During the September 2014 court session, in which Mukdahan man Sap Wapi claimed to be the crash culprit, Thongres along with her friend Thassanee Hanpayak as well as Sap’s wife Chan Wapi testified to support Sap’s claim while Jomsap submitted related documents to court regarding the claim. Thongres also took the stand as a witness again, saying the crash culprit was a man during the February 9 court session hearing Jomsap’s petition for a retrial.
After the Supreme Court threw out Jomsap’s request for a retrial on November 17 and also pointed to a plot to hire Sap to take the blame in place of Jomsap, Sap confessed to police that Jomsap’s friend Suriya Nuancharoen had offered him Bt400,000 if he successfully claimed responsibility for the accident.
Police have already filed charges against many people including Thongres, Thassanee, Sap, Suriya, Jomsap and her ex-husband Niran Saenmuangkhot.
Summons were issued to Thongres and four other people – Jomsap’s niece Wassana Phetchthong, lawyer Thanat Suktalodpee, Rojana Sanrat and Saneh Supan – on Thursday. The four are yet come to see police.
