A 12-year-old fan’s tears of joy at meeting Artiwara “Toon” Kongmalai on his epic fund-raising run across the country had the rock star also weeping on Monday.

Sixth-grader Natthanat Sutthirak was one of two boys to whom Toon presented scholarships during a visit to Wat Chon Tharam School in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Tha Sala district.
The school also received Bt50,000 in support funding.

It was Day 13 of Toon’s 2,191-kilometre run for charity, which has already collected millions of baht, mainly for hospitals, as it proceeds north to Chiang Rai.
Seeing Natthanat overcome with emotion, Toon struggled to hold back his own tears. He wiped his eyes as he hugged the boy.
In a short speech to the teachers and students, Toon said he had a friend in a primary school who was clever in class but just didn’t have the money to pursue his studies.
That’s why he’d begun also financing scholarships for underprivileged kids who have the potential to go further, he said.
