A boar was tranquilised at Wat Huai Moo in Ratchaburi’s Muang district on Wednesday morning after it reportedly attacked and slightly injured a monk at the temple.

The male, 80-kilogram boar nicknamed “Chok”, which had been raised at the temple since it was a squeaker, jabbed its tusks at the monk’s leg reportedly in mating-related frustration on October 22 evening, after which it was kept in a separate cage to prevent a further attack.
Maenam Pachee Wildlife Sanctuary head Pratheep Hermpayak and veterinarian Kanokwan Tarayanont shot the boar with two tranquiliser darts and tied it up before cutting 1.5 centimetres off its tusks and rounding its points as well as sterilising the animal.
The whole procedure, which was meant to enable the temple to keep the animal within the compound without the risk of another attack, took four hours. The boar was recovering yesterday.
