Bhutanese Royal couple in town for Royal Cremation

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2017

Their Majesties His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck of the Kingdom of Bhutan are in town to attend the Royal Cremation for HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

They were welcomed at the airport by Privy Councillor General Surayud Chulanont and General Anantaporn Kanjanarat, Energy minister.
The Thai and Bhutanese Royal families are close. King Jigme visited Bangkok last year a few days after King Bhumibol passed away to pay his last respects to the late King.
The Bhutan Monarch also organised special prayers held in Bhutan in honour of the late Thai King and on the same day as the Royal Cremation ceremony.
The event will be conducted at the Kuenselphodrang and His Holiness the Je Khenpo will preside over the daylong special prayer.
The prayer ceremony will be attended by the members of the Royal Family, senior government officials, diplomatic corps, the Thai community living in Bhutan and general public.
King Jigme’s Facebook page said King Bhumibol of Thailand is revered as a visionary King not just in Thailand but all over the world. The late King Bhumibol’s compassion and love for millions of Thai people has resulted in around 4,000 rural development projects, which have been at the forefront of innovation and continues to benefit millions of Thai to this day.
In a lifetime of achievements, His Majesty the late King Bhumibol’s legacy of benevolence, vision and selfless persona will remain a hallmark of leadership and beacon of integrity for generations to come.
“In view of our shared spiritual heritage and excellent relations between the two Kingdoms, His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen will travel to Thailand today to pay last respects to His late Majesty King Bhumibol and attend the Royal Cremation.  The couple is accompanied by their son.
