Jail term for flying drones during Royal Cremation
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) or drones will be prohibited from flying over Bangkok’s Grand Palace, Sanam Luang and within a 19-kilometre radius of the site for the Royal Cremation ceremonies for HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej from October 25-29.
A source at the Ministry of Transport’s Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) said its director-general, Chula Sukmanop, had signed a declaration prohibiting drone use during the period as a safety and orderliness precaution and out of respect for the late monarch.
Those violating this rule would be subject to up to one year in jail or a fine up to Bt40,000, or both.
Punishment is laid out in the 1954 Thailand Air Navigation Act, section 78(1), the source said.
Military officers are also authorised to destroy drones under the 2010 Act on Treatments Against Aircraft Committing Wrongful Acts, section 10(3).
