Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan reiterated on Monday that the election date could be confirmed only when the organic laws necessary for the event have been put in effect.

He was responding to politicians’ calls at a panel discussion on Saturday for the election date to be fixed.
Prawit rejected the notion that the junta would attempt some sort of “trick” over the date, citing ongoing legal enactment by the Constitution Drafting Commission and the National Legislative Assembly as the prime factor for the election date.
Prawit said that, at this point, there is no critical factor affecting the junta’s road map, and the government also wanted things to proceed as planned.
He also said that, if as many people had speculated, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha wanted to enter politics, he would have to contest the election.
