Floodwater levels in Kalasin fall as release from dam halved
The floodwaters along the banks of rivers in the Northeastern province of Kalasin receded by seven to 10 centimetres on Wednesday, the second day of reduction by half of water released from Lampao Dam, the provincial governor said.
Wednesday was the second day when the authorities halved the water release from the Lampao Dam to the Pao River, from 30 million cubic metres per day to 15 million cubic metres.
Kalasin Governor Suwit Khamdee said the water levels in the Pao River and Phan River had gradually receded, resulting in decrease in the floodwater levels in various low-lying areas of the province.
Suwit said a special working committee of the province will evaluate the situation to determine whether to further cut the water release rate or set the rate in accordance with the inflow rate of the dam.
He said so far 52 families from flooded areas were still living at an emergency shelter and over 100,000 rai of farmland remained inundated.
He said five districts – Muang, Yang Talad, Kongchai, Kamalasai, and Rongkham – were still affected by floods and 2,199 families in 24 villages remained affected.
