The northern province of Phrae organised a special ceremony to offer Tung rectangular traditional prayer flags to make merit for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Sunday.

Northern Thais believe the Tung offering will make merit for the deceased and lead the person’s spirit up to heaven.
The ceremony, dubbed “Dee Tam Por Thee Muang Phrae”, or be good following the father’s example at Muang Phrae, was held at the City Pillar Shrine and presided over by the province’s governor, Wattana Wutthichat.
The tailor-made prayer flags carried 89 pictures drawn by artists in an eight-month painting project to express people’s love for the late monarch.
The Tung flags were also placed on display in front of the City Pillar Shrine and the Phrae Municipality Office.
Meanwhile, a symphony orchestra played music composed by the late King at the Kaad Sam Wai market where there was also a traditional stage performance by young artists.
