Finance Ministry officials had been jointly investigating with police whether executives of a company called WealthEver ran a pyramid scheme that resulted in thousand of victims left stranded at Suvarnabhumi Airport, said Pornchai Thiraveja, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office on Wednesday.

A news report had suggested that thousands of Thai travellers might have been victims of a scam that allegedly claimed that people buying its products would be awarded a Japan trip.
Pornchai said the ministry needed to look into the details of whether WealthEver ran a pyramid scheme and whether officials had the authority to seize assets of the company and its executives and redistribute them to victims.
