The 36-year-old, wanted on a warrant issued by Thung Song Military Court, was the first suspect arrested in relation to the Mother’s Day spate of arson and bombing attacks in Trang and six other tourist provinces.
Since his arrest on September 2, he was held in military custody for interrogation as per the emergency decree that allows a suspect’s detention for up to one week without a charge.
In Trang, he would face charges of having explosives in his possession and causing an explosion that resulted in property damages, and conspiring with others to commit arson.
In a related development, Deputy Prime Minister Admiral Narong Pipattanasai yesterday presented Bt1 million assistance money to the family of Picherd Wiriyanupappon a victim of the August 11 blast at the Centre Point afternoon market on Ruenrom Road in Trang’s Muang district. His wife was also wounded in the incident.
Narong gave the money while visiting Wanthanee at Central Trang Hospital along with other senior officials. Six people who were wounded in the blast have been released from hospital. Narong’s group also planned to inspect the Centre Point bombing scene later yesterday.
