Sanit has in fact been at the helm of the bureau since last October but during the past months he had officially served only as the bureau’s acting chief.
“His appointment as Metropolitan Police Commissioner shall take effect retroactively from the day he was appointed as acting chief,” Deputy National Police Commissioner Pol General Pongsapat Pongcharoen announced yesterday.
According to Pongsapat, National Police Commissioner Pol General Chaktip Chaijinda nominated Sanit for the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s top post at a police commission meeting yesterday, highlighting the fact that Sanit had delivered well on police policies.
Born in 1956, Sanit is a member of the Royal Police Cadet’s Class 34. He holds two master’s degrees, one from the National Institute of Development Administration and the other from Ramkhamhaeng University.
Pongsapat said at yesterday’s meeting that the Police Commission also approved in principle a plan to scrap eight posts of police general that were considered equivalent to the deputy national police commissioner and the police force’s top adviser.
The resolution also approved in principle a plan to cancel 11 posts of assistant national police commissioner, or police chiefs who hold the rank of Pol Lt-General.
Also to be cancelled are three posts of deputy police chief who hold the rank of Pol Maj-General.
