PHRA SURASIT, head monk of Wat Yi Pa monastery in Ayutthaya’s Bang Sai district, yesterday filed a libel complaint against lawyer Songkran Atchariyasap, the assistant abbot of Wat Thasungthaksinaram Phra Samutchaowalit Kittimethee and businesswoman Saiyai

In the complaint filed at the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) head office, Phra Surasit claimed that the above-mentioned people had, in an interview with the media as well as CSD investigators, suggested that he was involved in Monta’s reported demand for Bt2.8 million from Saiyai.
Saiyai had accused Monta of claiming to be a “khunying” and colluding with the Wat Yi Pa monk to dupe her out of Bt2.8 million with the promise of getting her a royal decoration and a khunying title.
Phra Surasit insisted that he had only met Monta once in 2015, when she came to his temple with a military officer to make merit. He said they did not keep in contact after that.
Phra Surasit also accused Saiyai of violating the lese majeste law. He claimed that he won the Bt1 million prize in a boat decoration contest in 2008-9 and Saiyai had invited him over to her massage parlour in Bangkok’s Sathorn district to tend to his accident injury.
After the massage, he claimed that Saiyai would not let him leave until he signed a loan contract and a few months later she tried to get him to pay the debt, threatening him by dropping names and showing him photographs of herself with influential figures. Hence, he said, he had his lawyer pay her Bt500,000 and recorded the payment with Bang Sai Police Station.
The monk's lawyer presented documents to show that money had been put into a bank account under Saiyai’s alias Supimpisut Iamphum. Saiyai had reportedly told others that this was evidence of her paying the sum to Phra Surasit.
The monk also presented another provincial court document recording a lawsuit he had filed against Phra Samutchaowalit for intrusion and property damage to back his claim that they had had a dispute earlier.
