Captain Chaninthat Ratchinotrai, a Bang Rak Crime Police deputy inspector, faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to Bt100,000 or both.
Captain Chanchai Yensuk, a Nimit Mai traffic police deputy inspector, last week filed a police complaint accusing Chaninthat of duping him out of the Bt700,000 he allegedly gave him at a petrol station on Vibhavadi Road on June 8.
Acting Metropolitan Police chief Lt-General Sanit Mahathaworn said yesterday Chaninthat’s alleged attempt to return the money to Chanchai was evidence of his guilt.
Sanit said Chanchai would have to file a separate complaint before police can also investigate Chaninthat for fraud.
A source reported that Metropolitan Police Division 3 chief Maj-General Songpol Wattanachai had transferred Chaninthat to the division’s operation centre.
Metropolitan Police Division 3 chief Maj-General Chaiyaporn Panich-attra transferred Chanchai, who was initially considered the damaged party in the case, to the division’s operations centre until August 13.
The criminal investigation was cited as the reason for transferring the men.
