The suspect, Khamla Wong, who fled to Thailand in 2012 after his gang members were arrested in Canada for possession of cocaine and war weapons, also had a Thai national identity card of a Nong Khai native, Bang-on Budsri, which he had illegally obtained in 2013, Immigration Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Nathathorn Prousoontorn said.
Wong reportedly paid Bt500,000 for the Thai identity card, which he used to apply for a Thai passport that enabled him to travel in and out of the country on 14 occasions. Wong and his Chinese accomplice, Yang Fang Yong, were presented before the press yesterday following their arrest with 259 ecstasy pills at the Phang Muang intersection in Huai Kwang. The duo were charged with having possession of illicit drugs with the intention to sell. Police are investigating further about the identity theft before filing an additional charge.
