POLICE will soon ask a court to issue an arrest warrant against a senior police officer who allegedly claimed a close connection to the monarchy to demand a commission fee from a private firm that participated in a bike-campaign event in August, an inform

The officer, who works in the Central Investigation Bureau, allegedly demanded a commission of more than 30 per cent from the company in charge of gathering statistics for the event. The fee was more than Bt1 million.
 The Bike for Mom event in August drew tens of thousands of cyclists. A well-known fortune teller; Suriyan Sujaritpolwong, his secretary Jirawong Wattanathewasilp and Pol Major Prakrom Warunprapha, who had worked at the Technology Crime Suppression Division, were arrested in October on suspicion they falsely cited the Royal Family to demand sponsorships and bribes.
 Suriyan was a public relations chief for the bike event before his arrest. Both Suriyan and Prakrom died in the custody of the Military Court’s prison. Police have expanded their investigation into the scandal concerning the bike campaign.
Deputy national police chief Pol General Srivara Ransibrahmanakul said police had issued summonses for a group of alleged witnesses to give information to authorities. He declined to say whether the summoned individuals scheduled to meet police next Wednesday were Army or policemen. 
In a related development, a source said police would seek a court warrant for the arrest of a retired police major-general. They allege the officer was suspected of involvement in Pakrom’s alleged setting-up of an illegal radio station on Baiyok II Building in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi district. – The Nation
